The Texas Burro Rescue has been operating in Texas since February 20th, 2008. When we first came to Texas is was to deal with some wild burros along the border, what we found went much, much deeper.
During our first year, we have been contacted by County Animal Shelters and Law Enforcement Agencies dealing with neglected, abused and abandoned donkeys. We have worked with State and Federal Agencies as well as private ranchers in the capture and relocation of wild burros throughout South Texas. TBR took in over 120 donkeys in its first 12 months of operation.
And now that word is out, we are being asked to take in countless donkeys that have been reproducing unchecked for many years on cattle, sheep and goat ranches throughout the state. Most people in Texas are reluctant to keep jacks and so many of the donkeys that we take in are uncastrated males.
Some people have commented that we cannot do it all, that we might have to let some slip away. Peaceful Valley built its nation wide organization on the simple premise that we can save them all. As long as there are others out there that care as deeply as we do and are willing to share their Time, Talents and Treasure. Together, we can improve the plight of the many donkeys in the great state of Texas.
The Texas Burro Rescue is a division of the Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue. PVDR is our nation's largest professional non-profit donkey rescue with facilities located throughout the continental United States.
